oh this stupid fucking french keyboard.

I keep trying to press command-a and of course end up with command-q instead, and everything goes away.

thus the nice little update I just wrote is gone gone gone...

sunfeather:
Oh yes, I used to have that problem with the French keyboard. When I used to update my SG journals from the internet cafe on rue des Dames, I eventually got so used to it that I could touch-type on the French keyboard, and then when I came back to Britain I was all confused again and had to unlearn it...

Then there was the time in the Bibliothque Nationale when I pressed some mysterious combination of keys by accident and turned the French keyboard into an English one and had to kind of touch-type with my eyes closed because the letters on the keys no longer corresponded to the letters they would produce when struck!
confused confused confused

stickyrice:
Try again. It'll be better the second time! smile

PS - and I meant to say: the picture in my journal is therefore not a k-hole, but in fact a Lorenz attractor. I have been waiting for someone to recognise it, but no one has, yet.

some random things indicative of my current state of mind:

- I had a nightmare in which I lost my (red nalgeen) waterbottle, and cried.

- I wore unmatching socks this morning, and took a picture.

- afterwards, I painted my nails to match my socks.

- I bought The Principia Discordia on Amazon. Do you see the irony?

- I invited my lover to...

is this the burger ring wedding such lover is invited to?

and as for my identity crisis, it's more of a "my boyfriend knows my sg name" and I don't want him reading my journals....

merry xmas! biggrin

It's September 11. I almost didn't even notice.

Hello, NY.

Good point. I guess I didn't mean loving people, exactly, so much as decisions made about the people I loved.

Oh, I don't know what I mean with most of my writing. I just hope other people do. smile
sunfeather:
Your rationale about only buying music from musicians who need and deserve the money is a good one - maybe I should try that...

So yeah, I'm back. & so jetlagged it's not even funny.

What was funny, in a tragicomedy sort of way, was me on the RER with all the shit I got in NY. & then dragging it up to my cove on the 6ime tage.

Bonjour, Paris. Je t'aime.

Ha! Some day maybe I'll tell you about the time I dislocated my kneecap and couldn't walk for a month and was stranded in my sixth floor studio in the onzime with only the radio and the occasional car accident on the crossroads outside for company, but how I got so bored I had to try going out on my crutches anyway, but had to go up and down the stairs (sans ascenseur, bien entendu) one at a time very very slowly. tongue

And no, I don't know how to hack passwords. In fact, as I believe it's de rigueur to say in the United States of America, I don't know shit.

You seem to be mixing up the English spelling of Dostoyevsky with the French spelling. I get that a lot.

though not so much with the whole SG in MaccyD's scenario! tongue (I believe MaccyD's is a British-only term for McDonalds, but since it rhymes...)

Last time I was in Paris and couldn't get internet at home I spent hours upon hours in my local internet cafe, mainly on SG. It was a nice place, run by this ageing hippy with long hair and no shoes, ever, who had all this vegetarian food in little jars that nobody ever ate. I liked it, but it wasn't cheap. In case you should want to check it out, it's called Eighty Web and can be found at 88, rue des Dames in the 17th, but I guess it's a bit of a trek from the tenth and anyhow, c'est pas a qui manque Paris!

I haven't been back to Shakespeare's in years, presumably since summer '99 when I bought The Book that Saved my Life. Maybe I'll stop by next time I'm in town (although St-Michel is not really a quartier I 'do' very much anymore...
sunfeather:
Do all McDo's in Paris have wi-fi or just special ones?

I did find a place with wi-fi at the remote and strange Porte Maillot in the big convention centery place they have there. I really like Porte Maillot, but only discovered it at the end of my last stay so didn't spend much time. Went to the cinema there to watch The Incredibles.
biggrin

And, mm, I do have a laptop with a wireless card but have not had much success using it yet. What ISP do you use in Mcdo?
Ever tried hacking into anybody's wi-fi network in your apartment? People live so much on top of each other in Paris that I think it's pretty common...

Static trapeze and fabric (or "tissu" as you say over there smile ).

Circeau hurts too much and rope and harness is impractical for anything but huge shows, so my experience on those is only intermediate.

And you?

Actually, that sounds about like my life right at this moment!!
