So I took a Greyhound from Portland to Eugene and witnessed a town full of *nice people*. Saw this bizarre show called Beyond Alice. Cute stuff! Hitched about 10 rides from Eugene to Arcata, ending up in the car with several assholes making sexual comments, and several cool people who I met at The Ohm a few weeks ago. Hooked up with my friend Matt in Arcata, and checked out the forests. Talk about beautiful! No wonder everyone cares so much about the environment there! Later Matt took me to a silly keg party, and I must state that very little is funnier than watching a bunch of college hippies play Extreme Wheelchair sports.
Next it was off to Berkeley, where I met a beautiful girl named Phoenix who ended up taking me home with her. What a sweetie! I'm in Berkeley as I type this, and I'm starting to figure out that rent is super expensive here. So much bullshit to go through: all so I can find a comfortable place to live. My *real home* is the road, but it's nice to have somewhere to come back to. Somewhere that I won't get kicked out of, of course. (or have to pretend to be norm, which I'm no longer capable of doing)
There's a possibility of moving to Bloomington, Indiana. Only $200 a month. If you're not familiar with Bloomington, let's just say that it's the Austin of Texas. The place rocks, quite simply! Lots of DIY culture, and not in the processed Portland way. Don't get me wrong: I love Portland. It's de place to be: de city of de future: special interest groups for homeless tofu eating lesbians: etc. etc. etc. It's just that it's so *established.* Whattya want? Fringe fringe fringe! (did she just say the f word?) Whattya need? A mutant commune!
If we don't have enthusiasm about being awkward we're going to bore ourselves. The New Breed has yet to become The New Generation. Sometimes it's hard to be from the future: so painfully radical: not a rocker in sight who *really* understands. But what do I do? Share myself with a world who views me as their entertainment: uses my ideas for their financial purposes: my function in society is Meme Machine. Do I get paid for this? Well, there *are* my Crazy Checks.
I wonder if I'm gonna make it to the DC protest on the 15th. If so, I better find a ride soon. If not, I'll head for Santa Cruz tonight, and eventually head back for the protest in San Francisco.
