Ok, this may seem like a minor thing to a lot of people, but it's big juju for me. When I was 16, I was varsity wrest;ing captain. During a tournament, I had my left arm torn from its socket. It snapped two ligaments, blew out the rotator cuff, and damaged the nerves down the entire arm. I went through limited physical therapy, enough to regain some use of it but the doctors said there was nothing more to be done. It's been mostly useless for anything that required manual dexterity or lifting.

Recently, my doctor taught me a few strengthening exercises to assist me in regaining some use of it. But one thing that's really been helping is Guitar Hero. I usually have it set on Easy since I lacked the dexterity to play it on Normal. Last night, I kicked it up to Normal and gave it another shot and did a lot better than I did before. I talked to my doctor earlier and mentioned this, and she believes that continuing playing may very well help restore that dexterity as well.

It's been a mind-blowing six months. I'll give the rundown.

I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Dissociative Identity Disorder. However, I had learned to cope with it daily, albeit not happily. Now I'm on medication that's helped me redirect the energy I used to stay functional into making progress in my life.

My diagnosis of vasovagal syncope was amended to narcolepsy.

In May, I'll be back in my own place. Income based. Right on campus too!

I began receiving breathing treatments to assist with my asthma.

I begin a weight-loss regimen. Losing weight somewhat quickly now.

I found a job that keeps my interest and that I enjoy thoroughly, at a movie theater.

I found my life calling: to be a writer. I plan to take my first college courses in English and journalism later this year. In addition, I began work on a novel that looks likely to be published upon completion. Look for it under the nom de plume Harvey P. Richard.

I got a complete physical for the first time in years. For being heavy, I'm in remarkably good health.

It's been overwhelming. I pulled a complete 180 with my life and got my shit together, and found myself to be a much more complete person than I could have ever imagined. I enjoy every day, work hard and play harder. I still would like to have someone special in my life, but I can wait for the right one.

I challenge you this: think of something you've done for yourself over the last year or so. Something that changed your life for the better. And think of something you want to accomplish this year. Tell me about it. Tell everyone about it. Then step up and do it.

One last thing, keep your fingers crossed for me come Monday, I have an interview for an assistant manager position at one of our locations.
