L7, breeders, scout niblett, pj harvey, 7 year bitch, sleater-kinney, cat power, yeah yeah yeahs, bikini kill and yeah, even HOLE "...well, i went to school ...in olympia!...." ...

last night was just a we bit too fun ...taking it chill at home this time

i remember years ago as a vegetarian reading The Mists Of Avalon and pondering quite intently upon the passage where Morgaine thinks to herself about her dilemma and justification for eating some meat, which she normally did not do (i hope i remember that correctly).

Last year, after helping a brash old biker clean out his barn, I was given a couple frozen roasts as a gesture of thanks. Though I'm still not really much of a meat eater these days, I accepted the gift, thinking I would likely find someone who would appreciate the grass-fed quality more than I. But, i somehow never did. Their presence in my freezer gnawed at me until this week when I pulled one out to thaw. Tonight I opened the butcher paper and in as much reverence as I could muster, I proceeded to engage that cow's flesh in a process of epicurean alchemy. In the end, I am quite satisfied with the results ...especially in light of how rarely, if at all, I cook flesh. I guess I can call it a spicy mole beef stew with carrots and red potatoes. Honestly, it tastes really quite amazing with some raw goat cheddar and a handful of rice tortilla chips, with a glass of cider at the ready to keep the many varied peppers in check. I think Morgaine would be proud and likely ask for seconds.

Whoever and wherever you are, may you be enjoying a meal worth similar exultations ...and may your soundscape be equally as divine.

thank you unknown cow for this gift of your flesh. I vow to use the energy I derive from it with love, clarity and kindness. Rest in Peace.
