When E-journaling (AKA) "Blogging" came into being, I was skeptical, but interested none the less.
As the explosion of blogging sites proliferated the day to day tales of 13 year old girls whiney middleschool romaces, and gloomy melodramatic teenage rants, I started to question it's value. Perhaps people would learn to write better. Slowly I began to notice the advent of an E-language commonly reffered to as "Leet speak". It suddenly struck me that Orwell's vision of Newspeak was perhaps evolving on it's own, out of our inane entertainment seeking, intillectual laziness. Perhaps I come down too hard on something that could be considered a creative application of language evolution, or an adaptation to a communication environment that is different than that of previous modes of conversation. Youtube and flicker are faced with similar banality, from what could be, in the hands of a well educated and informed public, a very useful tool for democracy and expression. But then something new came about.
Enter Twitter. At first glance it was somewhat mysterious, for it was being toted as the next big thing in social networking, and from what I had been overhearing from people and the media, sounded to me like nothing new. So I decided to just go take a look. In Twitters' own words, they described themselves thus: Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?"

I've since taken to calling my friend's up on the phone and saying "I'm making a sandwhich", while hanging up before they can respond.

You've just been Twittered BITCH!
