Life is good!!
Today I need to blog about my professional world.
If you don't know I'm a homebirth and birth center midwife. I think most of you do though.
I had a very long day yesterday. I am so happy with the way things turned out. I got called in the the birth center at 2am on the 5th. The mama seemed to be laboring good and strong. So the assitants and I got everything ready. Well the labor kept going an going and going. Which was fine. It just seemed like she was working so hard.
Ultimatley I ended up seeing an entire days worth of clients while the other midwife monitored the labor. I would check in from time to time. It was a busy day. In the mix I saw two mama's that are due and one for her 6 week postpartum visit and a couple more. With a labor going on it seemed very busy.So my last client left at 4pm and the laboring mama started to push.
Pushing took nearly 3 hours. My body is so sore. Which is not typical for me after a birth. Most of my midwifery clients call or come in when they are in very active labor and the baby comes a short time after or at least in a few hours. I dont' need to coach them. They just push their baby's out. Not this mama. We all worked my ass's off and I think I sprained me arm pretty good. She was amazing and so strong.
This was a birth totally within the range of normal with so many trippy variations.
I am so happy and proud to say we had a happy and healthy mama and baby without having to go to the hospital. Not that I go to the hospital very often. I am just extra happy and proud not to go with this one.

"There is not a single report in the scientific literature that shows obstetricians to be safer than midwives for low-risk or normal pregnancy and birth. So if you are among the more than 75 percent of all women with a normal pregnancy, the safest birth attendant for you is not a doctor but a midwife." Marsden Wagner, MD
Oh and if I haven't said it lately----> I LOVE WHAT I DO!!!!!
