Being a woman comes with some interesting tasks to say the least...

I couple weeks ago I scheduled a Annual Exam class for everyone that I work with. I asked a friend Nurse Practioner to come and teach it. I also had Thin Prep come and teach everyone about their PAP testing liquid cytology test.
Well yesterday was the big day and the class finally happened and it went quite well. First of all I decided to be the model for the class of 7 women. My dear friend who did the exam is one of my best friends and drinking buddies--thank god. I HATE HAVING PAP tests. Why the hell did I volunteer? Well I guess it's because I believe in the Womb to Tomb midwifery and think that midwives should be able to care for women through the various stages of life.

All fo the women arrived at the clinic. One of the women and my friend is a midwife from Equador. She says that Americans are very loose sexually and will do anything-haha--it discusts her. She is very kind but does have her beliefs about things. So I made sure to let everyone know that when it was time for my breast exam to look at her face. No one knew why. I just made them all promise to look. So when the time came I dropped my little paper sheet and I kid you not she actually screamed out loud. It was like a mastercard comerrcial-->PRICELESS. I have never laughed so hard.

On another note I had a total anxiety attack about having a PAP. I always do. It was so rediculous. However, I do believe it gave the other midiwves some perspective of how gentle and kind you need to be to women having these exams. Gosh, I mean really, if the chatty, mouthy, tough, tattooed and periced midwife trips her exam --what about the other women. Everyone was quite concerned and kept asking if I was OK. It was a trip. While holding my breath I would say "I'm fine. I just have issues." They would remind me to breathe. "Naked is no biggy but this was." I'm kind of embarassed. Ah but life goes on I guess.

I know it sucks women.. but it's important... get your PAPs.. Ok there's the public service announcement.

It was a all and all a great class. I feel really good that I was able to offer myself to teach the others, as hard as it was for me. LIFE???? What a trip. confused

I don't really know anything about all that. But it's plainly obvious even to me how important your type of work is. So on behalf of my mother and all of my sisters, you have my thanks! smile
