Work was already a bear, but now one of our staff has decided that today would be his last day. Great - now the remaining three of us have to split up his families to further burden our case load. Monday is gonna stink

I'm sorry to hear it... being short-staffed sucks, and it feels awful to use as an excuse to people you're trying to help, even if it's the truth, that you simply don't have the time necessary to get all the tasks done to the fullest extent/best you otherwise could.
