The Blacksun Festival... A blurry photo of Voltaire, oddly enough this is how most of the world looked to me this weekend.

So I did it again, on Friday Rachel, Swabby, and I went to New Haven for the third installment of BSF.

The Drive up really fucking sucked, I would have taken pictures but I was afraid for my safety and thus photos of the ride up were nixed. Though the ride was eventful, there was bad weather, traffic and car trouble, and that was just the ride to Swabby's place in Queens.

So then after getting Swabby traffic moved pretty quickly for twenty minutes and then it stopped. It just stopped. So we sat and then eventually stuff started moving again, slowly at first, and then slowly some more, and then just so altogether. So once we finally started moving we stopped because we were in need of a rest stop. Apparently we weren't the only ones because their was not a parking space to be had. So I had to leave the car running in a fire zone, so we could run in grab food and use the restroom. The line at McDonalds was nuts five full lines, but fortunately I got into the the newly opened sixth line and was third, so we got in got out, and right back into traffic. Where was everyone going is what I wanted to know.

So we got to New Haven. Thankfully and it was pissing down rain, perfect weather for all the gothy's to come out and play. After checking in at the Omni, we walked down to the Marriott got checked in, said hi to Annabel, bought some booze and went back to the hotel. Rachel and Swabby took a nap while I showered, drank a bit, watched Love Actually and took random pictures of my friends sleeping.

So after this the weekend begins hazing over and even as I am typing now, the vivd images in my thoughts are disappearing... Damn Vodka/Monster and Jager... Watch out kids hundreds of pics are coming. Also for those of you that don't know, my buddy Rach is Miss Tanky Suicide.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Rachel, Swabby and I posed out and and partied before going out, we ordered a nice dinner from Room Service, which at the Omni was really good. We broke the phone in the room somehow and weren't able to order dinner so I had to go to the front desk in my club wear, which to me in hilarious, because even though other gothy kids stayed at the Omni, it's mostly an older richer group of people that stay at these places, but what can I say I have taste, and I like comforts and amenities, so anyway the phone got fixed, we ate and off to the party. We were all smashed when we left. smile

Interface played first and while they sounded great, they were really boring to watch the singer had no presence and I got the feeling that they didn't play out much, but if you're drinking and you like the sound of music at your back and you don't want to worry about missing seeing something cool. Then Interface is for you.

So we hung around drank a bunch more found, our doll Annabel and took some more pictures, I kept my sunglasses on all night in the club which a subject of much ridicule, but who cares, we were all having fun, Anders Manga even popped into one of the pics and I was like, "Hey you're that fucking guy!" And he responded that he was infact that fucking guy.

Then, amazingly enough Anders Manga performed. They were so fucking good, Anders really has soul when he sings and that's something really rare, and it makes the band incredible to watch.

So then GOTHMINISTER with Bruno Kramm played, Bruno is the guy with his hair sculped into horns, and he regularly performs as part of Das Ich, but tonight special he played with GM... And to tell you the truth I was very upset because they were one of the main reasons I wanted to go to the Festival this year, but I hate to say it GOTHMINISTER looked like a cheap knockoff of Marilyn Manson. He had the big podium attempted to grow several feet and I was like omg, this is so cheezy. I really expected better and they were a big letdown.

So after GM, we took a break and went outside. Where we ran in to Dj Adambomb, a good friend of ours that we haven't seen since the first Blacksun Festival

Then we met Rachel and her friend Jay, Rachel performs as DJ Haywire and the Haywire Experiment. I bought her cd and she's really good. Me and Rach both thought she was hot, so if you're reading this, face it you just are! But they were two of the many quality people that we met and actually thought to take pictures with. I tell you we can take a hundred shots of nothing but not one when we really need to.

Up next was Life Cried, and they were awesome they really fooled me, at first I thought that they were just Psyclon Nine rip-offs but the more I tried to dismiss them, the more I found myself getting pulled back in by them. Easily the best band I saw Friday night. Their are only a couple pics because I was on the floor tearing it up for this set.

Now onto the main event of the evening!!! The Birthday Massacre!!! I love this band and seeing them was really a treat. And to think I hated them a year ago, but they were really cool, and Chibi looked really cute, and Falcore looked suspiciously like Dresden from Deadstar Assembly but whatever, they rocked none the less, though I was still blown away by Life Cried so the Birthday Massacre takes home the silver.

Swabby and Rachel wrestling ends the festivities of night 1, sure there was more partying but the camera really gets less attention by this point.

Day 2.

We did alot of exploring Saturday, seeing what's what, both alone and with a group we checked out most everything there was to see in the little town of New Haven.

We walked around and played with my new breast that I acquired at Variant 13 clothing. Then we went to the cemetery and desecrated some graves my making Rachel and the boob pose on them. Notice the grave she sits on is that of Eli Whitney's, the man who invented the cotton gin. I have some choice things to say about Mr. Whitney and his time but I will leave those unsaid.

Next we went to Projekt Fest at Alchemy but it doesn't really appeal to us. I like Black Tape for a Blue Girl but for the most part it doesn't make for a compelling show to watch, if you like your stuff lighter and really dig the whole elves and princesses fantasy side to goth then this is your bag, but for me it's nice background music to other things. We also took a shot with Patrick who is the king of Philadelphia, you might not want to accept it, but it's true. Isn't Annabel so cute? wink

So after our time at PF we all split up and did our own thing. Annabel and I went and got sushi, and everyone else, well I saw them again later.

After a quick change and refresh on drinking and other things we headed on down to Toad's for the second night of dancing and great music. Up first was Scrap EDX. Who was okay his beats were good but watching one guy who doesn't do anything but play on his laptop is very boring.

Now onto Terrorfakt who were just unbelievable. How can they not be bigger, and I heard that originally they were going to be buried on Sunday's line-up. Fortunately a big crowd came out early to see them. I was really impressed and immediately became a fan. The guy playing the air-conditioner was my favorite.

After Terrorfakt Swabby, Jackie, and I went back to the hotel to pick up Rachel, but before we did I grabbed a picture with Martin Atkins, and whatever I've said about him before is still true, but I had to grab this photo. Then back at the hotel, Rachel was looking sooooo cute that we had to have an impromptu photo session. But we got a bit carried away, and missed Stromkern completely frown...

We got back in time for Decoded Feedback but I wasn't interested in them and by the time Voltaire played I was to busy being social, I was also very drunk so I spent most of the rest of the night hanging out. I grabbed photos with Uber who owns Variant 13, Adambomb, Merc that night of Terrorfakt, Julio who I mistook for some guy on the street who asked me what goth was, but he was cool and we drank together. Bruno, Annabel and I played a game of keep away, that was really funny. And I met the Gothsicles who are two of the most awesome people I met all weekend. They're like night and day but we all just clicked and it was awesome, plus I love everyone when I'm drunk. But them especially. I was really looking forward to seeing them play live the next night.

Closing Saturday was Imperative Reaction, who were really awesome, but I was a little too drunk to take a ton of pictures. It was a great night and a blast but when it was over I was down and out, so we said our goodbyes, got some food and called it a night.

Day 3.

As Sunday opened we all had to force ourselves out of bed early so we could pack and check out. We parked the car at Alchemy and went down the street to a little out door restaurant that we found at the first Blacksun for Sunday Lunch, though we didn't run into Ellen Muth this time around. Still it was a good meal and a great time reminiscing.

So Sunday afternoon we spent the day hopping around from various events and taking alot of pictures. We went to the art show and saw some great things.

Then we decided to beat the heat by jumping in the fountain and taking some pictures. My boots went squish squish for the rest of the day. Another couple even showed up, and we convinced one of them to get into the fountain with us. I feel bad because I forgot their names but they were really nice.

After that we hooked up with other kids for the photo safari which was really cool, but then we ditched that to check out the vendors. The kids at Radioactive Music were great and gave me my much needed music merch fix!

So after the vendors and hooking back up with Annabel we headed down to Alchemy to check out all the bands.

Up first were No Response and they were good. Though I was distracted so I kept coming in and out. Then the Gothsicles played and I was really pumped seeing these guys. They sing about the stuff I love video games, goths, and how they apply to real life. Okay maybe there is no mention but they were the most fun out of all the bands and after telling them I wouldn't buy them any drinks, so I think that made them step it up a notch. One second ghost was surely going to be stuck in my head forever. And they had quite a few good jokes, and they put Annabel in the Goth Song video. They are so awesome, buy the cd, get them rich.

After their set we ditched out on Stochastic Theory and got some Turkish food, babaganush and Sultan's Delight. Mmm mmm good.

Bella Morte, rocked!!! The band that kills all the others year after year, they blew the lid off Blacksun 1 and this time around with a smaller crowd then all other nights they stole the show again!!! You can argue with me but the noise level was like wow, and the energy in the crowd just couldn't be matched. Andy, Tony, Micah, Jordan, and Tony are just amazing really great show. They were the best.

After their set we hung around and watched the fashion show, I talked to BM, and again I hung around with the Gothsicles, and thanks to myself with alot of help from Mighty Mike Saga, the Gothsicles are coming to Philly!!!

Edited 8/14/07 Swabby's pics loaded

So Sunday Night we said goodbye to the Goth kids, and Blacksun Festival. It took what seemed like forever for me to get home. Swabby got dropped off at like 10:30 and I didn't roll in until almost 4. But it was a great weekend. Thanks to all the cool kids, and a big thanks to Rachel who bought the ticket for me and made it possible for me to go. So hopefully there is a next year.
