Just got back from Yeah! Fest in Olympia, WA. 3 days/nights of rock 'n' roll for a good cause: against Bush! They rented out the old Eagles hall - 3 levels, 3 stages, good times.
Highlights:
- Seeing C Average in an old auto shop garage at midnight on friday. C Average, for those unfamiliar, is a 2 piece epic/prog/instrumental-metal/rock storm consisting of a crazy-tight double-bass drummer and a human flurry of guitar noise set out to save the world from darkness via the ROCK! Great show, about 12 people there, hehe.
- Seeing Xiu Xiu, The Gossip, Bangs and Deerhoof in an old ballroom.
- Seeing Eric Erlandson, former guitarist from Hole, and getting him to hug my friend.
- A brief stint of dancing in a gay bar.
- Drinking in an alleyway with friends out behind the liquor store for 3 days straight.
A good time, but happy to be back home. Oly's a weird town or maybe I just saw a weird side of it. For some reason, I didn't get it. Maybe I'm not hip enough. Besides, it's nice to be sleeping in my own bed again as opposed to a cat hair-covered chair in the corner.
PS - I just got accepted to SGSeattle (thanx) and I hope to get my lazy white ass out my Ballard apartment and socialize with some local folks. I see there's a Ballard pub crawl coming up, maybe I'll raise a pint with some of ya.
