Thanks! Yeah, don't worry about sounding like an asshole re: how good learning about stuff that interests you and being around people with similar interests feels; those are precisely the reasons that I'm itching to get back into school.
Lately I've felt that I fit in less and less when I go to places like shows or anywhere else that has a defined aesthetic or supposed pretense under which people gather or operate.
I feel like this more and more as well. And you're right, shows seem to be particularly bad for this sort of thing. A couple of years ago, a student of mine saw a picture of me from high school complete with long hair, goatee, and metal t-shirt. Her immediate response was, "Wow, you mean you used to be cool?!"

Talk up L.A. huh? Well, it takes some getting used to for sure but if you are indeed planning on moving here, downtown is the place to be for artists, freespirits, bums and the like. I'm not in the "scene" really but there definitely is a strong one. I go to galleries and shows from time to time and if I wanted, I could probably find one everynight. There is of course the film and television industry that you could look into. You could be a set builder or a set dresser. I've always wanted to do that, but I'm shit with powertools. I'm hoping to change that.

Holy fucking metal, dude. One of my biggest regrets is selling most of my vinyl from the '80's when I started bike racing and needed money for entry fees and travel. I kept the important stuff, but sold so many things I wish I still had. I've even started buying a lot of it back now when I come across it. So think about whether or not you're gonna miss any of that stuff, especially the colored vinyl!
