ok - so it has taken quite a while for me to get around to adding anything here at all and it is unlikely that i will update this very regularly. mostly i will be adding stuff to my pics area from my ongoing art projects.

i have posted one group today from an ongoing project i have been working on with acheron(see friends). this project began about a year and a half ago, but is just now really beginning to come together.

from a conceptual standpoint, this project explores the perceptions of sex, sexuality and intimacy through a distorted visual representation. the concept lying in the fact that during sex our visual perception of the act itself is very limited and different than a 3rd party observer (or camera observer as is the case here). the visual nature of the act is made up and informed primarily by fantazising. the level of intimacy between the individuals involved greatly influences and affects the outcome of this fantsized reality. a straight image, would not portray the same image we are creating in our minds while we are engaged. the images here attempt to move towards a portrayal closer to the mental image we create within our own psyche.

from a technical standpoint, the process for creating these images is to the best of my knowledge, new and unique. it consists of shooting video - handheld and fixed camera positions - then rephotographing the video from the television with traditional film (medium format 6x7cm - mamiya rz-67) at slow shutter speeds (1/4 - 1 sec). the film is then scanned and some minor retouching is performed. the Retouched image is printed on heat transfer paper using an epson photo 1280 printer. i usualy make 3 heat transfer prints from each image. the 3 heat transfers are then applied to canvas that has been treated with a transparent gesso. during the application process, each layer receives a sightly different treatment in terms of temperature, length of heat exposure and length of cooling time before the backing sheet is removed. this helps to create more texture, variation and distortion in the image. eahc sheet is also slightly offset from the last to blur the image and distort it further. once the application is completed, the image is stretched on a standard canvas frame and a high gloss varnish is applied. al the images are either 8"x8" or 8"x10". the size of the images enhances the intimate quality, though i am also somewhat limited in the sizes as heat transfers are not made in very large dimensions. the scans as seen here do not do full justice to the image, as it is difficult to scan something with texture and get an accurate portrayal. in the future they will be replaced by scans of copy slides of the art and provide a better representation of the finished product.

sorry tothose not interested in the technical details, but i thought some may be curious. this is the first place i have displayed these images in a public forum and i am a bit shy about moving this stuff out into the world at large but i figure it must start somewhere.

in the next week or two i will add work from other projects - some old and some that are in progress.

hope you enjoy them and here is one sample image:
