So if I change my alias (insomnimaniac), am I going to have to delete all my friends and re-request friendship, or will it just automatically switch over with time? Cuz I tried this a couple days ago, and 'insomnimaniac' was still listed on peoples friends list, while the new name wasn't -- yet everybody on my list remained there.

If you change your name you will keep your friends. And sometimes it takes a bit for SG to catch up to your change, so just give it time and your name will change for everyone.
