I posted this same thing in the Web Developers group; sorry if it's redundant.

Hey Humans,
Sorry to bother you with my inferior and feeble brain wink. Here's my problem:

I've had the same website for four or five years, which someone (whom I can't get in touch with anymore) built and put up for me.

It's hosted on Dreamhost. I pay $120 a year for it. Earlier this year there was a big snafu with their billing and I decided that when the time came I would switch to a new host.

The time has come. I recently bought hosting with InMotion and cobbled together a few pages with the little Dreamweaver I know, and put them up.

What I want to do (until a new a glorious site is created for me) is switch my old site over to the new hosting. I have no clue how to do this, which is mostly why I'm here.

Today, since I've declined to pay Dreamhost since their billing snafu, my account was finally suspended. I don't know if this will make the transfer more difficult (or impossible).

I *do* have the original site files on my computer, but I'm terrified to mess with them since they're the only ones I've got.

Okay, the end. Thanks for not rolling your eyes too many times, and for what help you can give.

Lurve,
~O

Update: it's not a simple matter of getting the files; i can't get to them because the account is suspended. what a hassle. and what a boring blog. sorry, dudes.

The only thing I can add to what's already been said is that it's a good idea to put your backups on several different media - external hard drive, USB flash drive, CD/DVD, etc. and keep at least one of them in a different geographical location than the others.

Yikes, sounds irritatingly complex to me. Not much I can add.
