I've decided that after I have 'the talk' with my husband next week I will have to email my parents.

They are both strict Christians and I know that being in their household and not abiding by the religious standards they believe in can put them in a bad situation within the congregation. Being raised and baptized in this religion myself, I also have an obligation to let them know because even though I no longer practice this religion I have to officially notify the congregation in order to break ties (which I have not done yet). Yes, it is complicated and no I will not say what specific Christian religion they practice.

I don't have the guts (or money) to call them and explain everything on the phone. I also write much better than I speak when in very stressful situations.

I don't want them to treat me differently, like I have some sort of mental illness (even though my mother will think of it in that way). Its so hard for me to stand up to my parents. They won't ever agree with what I have chosen and I can understand that. Everyone has a right to believe what they want to believe. I'm not going to try and spend my time educating them about 'alternative lifestyles' because they are who they are and I respect that even though those beliefs condemn me. I won't have the strength to 'convert' them when I've just been able to be honest with myself.

So, long and short of it, after my talk with the husband, I will email them letting them know of the situation and allowing them the option of telling me now whether or not me and the baby will be welcome in their home while the husband is in Iraq.

I need some love and courage.

Sidenote: Not being able to drink anything stiffer than chocolate milk (99% caffiene free) on this diet is a witch! But I'd eat the chocolate crunch ricecakes even if I wasn't trying to watch my weight. Yumilicious. :p

Some SG's look so young in the face, it makes me feel weird looking at them. whatever

I went through a similar dilemma about six years ago when I ceased referring to and thinking of myself as a christian. my parents, as dramatic as they tend to be, thought I was either going through a phase or had turned into a godless heathen, and for awhile it was tough but I never lost their love or support. I still avoid the subject with them, but they certainly didn't disown me. I hope your parents pleasantly surprise you...I have a feeling they might, especially if you explain your position as articulately as I see you write on this site all the time.

& happy birthday darlin
