We actually don't get health care until we are officially landed and become a permanent resident, at which point you get a job and join the tax train. I've been paying property taxes, not to mention EI and OHIP and all that stuff for years now.
My husband is Canadian, that's why I'm here. I didn't have to become a citizen, but I wanted to be able to vote (non-citizens cannot vote or run for office) and felt that since I live here and am able to get all the wonderful things real Canadians get, I might as well join you.
