* You know what I find infuriating? People who have no appreciation for history. Did you know that in a survey conducted amongst Canadian high school students, no one could name the date of Canadian Confederation (July 1st, 1867), and only 50% of respondents knew who Sir John A. MacDonald was (our first Prime Minister, the father of Confederation and frankly, one of the biggest reasons we are not Americans)? How could you live in a country and not know those basic facts? If those students don't know those things, then they certainly wouldn't know why there is even a country of Canada. How can you be a citizen of a country and not know why it exists? People here take for granted all the blood, sweat and tears of all the people who built this country I love - from the early politicians in Upper and Lower Canada who forged ahead with a Confederation to resist annexation from the United States to the migrant workers who built the great Canadian railway (a cornerstone in the founding of Confederation) to the immigrants who settled the western lands that are now the envy of the world over to the brave Canadians who died in such places as Vimy Ridge and Dieppe. A lot of people in Canada look down on the United States, but, you know, one thing that Americans have over us is an appreciation and basic knowledge of their history. We are in danger of becoming a country that has no history and that scares the pants off of me.

* Also, I think the day that some kid tells me he's never heard 'Spirit of the Radio' by Rush, will be the day you see my cry.

* Why didn't you tell me about 'Freaks and Geeks' sooner? It's like The Replacements of TV sitcoms.

* I don't know about you, but lesbian porn doesn't excite me as it used to.

* I don't think I'll ever get married. It's not soley because I don't want to (a sentiment you can understand after the previous fiasco), and it's not because I haven't met 'right girl'. It sounds pessimistic, but if it hasn't happened by now, as I creep into my mid-30s, it's more than likely not going to happen. I just think the opportunities to meet and socialize with people become fewer and fewer as you get older. You fall into a routine which you follow every day for X number of years and the next thing you know, you find yourself completely reticent of breaking out of this routine to try new things. You grow out of those things that you once thought were cool to do (e.g. hang out at bars, go to shows, bust a move (do the kids still say that?) at a hiphop club) and the social crowd with which you did these things thins out as former members move away or fall into domestic relationships. I think I'm cool with that. It just, you know, gets lonely sometimes.

* Let me end on a happy note. A nice-looking gay boy on the bus yesterday said I looked awfully cute in my rolled-up Levi's and my flip flops. That counts for something ,right?
katalina:
I love you. Honestly though, I'm a huge history buff. I love learning about places and people, I watch dorky channels like Discovery or History or National Geographic.

And yes, America has no History too.
