I just typed into google my mother's last name and I just learned specifics about the history of my Mother's side of the family...and while I knew they were rich and all that, understanding the details is something different.

My Mom's last name is 'Grosvenor' (the s is silent). For those new englanders out there who have heard of the town Grosvenordale....that town is named after my mom's family. They owned a Textile mill and made millions of profits on the sweat, blood and life of those who had less money than them. During the Civil war my ancestor was part of the senate that promoted the gathering of arms for the north. It's a noble thing and all but I'd bet my last buck that my ancestors weren't anywhere near a bullet.

So Basically, my mother's side of the family was wealthy...in the sort of way that town are named after them. I can't help but think about how I'm associated to a high class family. I mean there are the positives (i.e. the wealth that my mother still notices through trust funds ((30 grand a year from a 90 MILLION dollar trust that I'll never understand but will always respect)) The well off historic cemetary has the grosvenor plot as one of the flagships of elegant and extraordinary beauty...which says alot). Yet there is also the personal negatives. I know alcholoholism has run in my family to the point where a relative of mine was banned as a surgeon for performing surgery while drunk. All the negatives that you can attach with the psychology of having way too many resources...chances are they are shared in my family.

Basically, it's just weird knowing your part of a historic family yet you're not on the lap of luxury. Granted, my mother's inheritance paid for the very house I'm sitting in...but I still see myself as an everyday citizen.

It's just weird...that's all.

(Jesus christ, I wonder what this entree will look like when I'm sober.)
