I went to see the slip show last night. That makes it the 8th or 9th time I've seen them. And I dunno about where they're going as a band.
The Slip started out as a Jam band, but now they're getting into more pop songs. And while they're still decent pop songs, you know that they are capable of a lot more. For instance the night was filled with really interesting when they decided to play with these two friends of theirs on a couple songs, one playing steel drum and the other on bongos. There were times when they were playing with them where they sounded as one and just became really tight and interesting. But during that same show they had a 4 chord rock progression, that just seemed lazy after seeing what they were doing earlier.
Their crowd is changing a lot to. When I started seeing them it was mostly people in their early to mid twenties, and now the show i saw last night was filled mostly with kids around 16. You could tell with the older crowd that they were into the jam scene where they were probably going to over 10 shows a year, while with this younger crowd they were probably seeing about 3 shows a year, and the other two were probably arena rock shows. Because of all of that it's harder for them to start up strong because the kids were just watching for the 1st three songs.
But The band recorded the show, which i should be recieving in the mail. It's still a good band so if anybody wants it email me and I'll make you a copy and send it to you.
