I got the coolest thing ever yesterday. Earlier in the week my parents had told me that I had a package waiting for me, but I thought it was something from Tool's website. So when I come home its no big deal.
When I open it I get a little confused because the first thing I see is a small Nip of Crown Royal, and i still thought something was off, but i had no idea what it was. Then when look into it more I see a box with some strange scribble handwriting, and as soon as i see that handwriting i know who it is and a freak out COMPLETELY.
IT WAS FROM CHUCK PALAHNIUK!
I went to one of his book signings in late september and decided to give him a small moleskine notebook because i knew he always wrote outdoors. When I was there I figured I'd write my name and address and "Meeting people at a bookstore is like trying to say hello to every kernel of rice on a plate". At the most I thought that I'd get the notebook sent back when it was filled with his work. Not some huge package of gifts!
Inside there was the Nip of Rum, A Chuck Palahniuk T-Shirt, A Plastic Trick Knife where the blade goes into the Handle, a badgammon set, The UK import of Survivor, Signed Saying "Thanks for being more than just more Rice! Chuck" And inside the book was a letter, saying "thanks for the notebook, I'm using it every day! In return i made you this creepy necklace that I hope brings you good luck.
He made me a beaded Necklace! it says "To Alex Hand, Thanks from Chucky P." What a fucking Nice guy!
It's absolutely amazing. He gave me other sorts of little things in there too but the fact is that he put a lot of time and thought into it. I freaked out for a good three hours, not beleive all that this amazing author from way out of nowhere had sent me.
I'm so scared about the thank you note i'm going to send him, I mean, writing, that's his medium. I dunno though, but its the best present anyone has ever given me!
