I watched Catherine Breillat's "Sex is Comedy" yesterday and I was really impressed with her directing skills. I really like women directors. I've watched a lot of movies that are considered to be great films and, although I do understand their merits, I can never truly get into them as a lot of them depict women in a way that borders on Misogyny ( Not all of them and much less in modern films. I had Rashomon specifically in my mind when I wrote that). I know that they're just a product of their time and many of you will just think I'm being reactionary or overly sensitive, but I can't just go " well it's not like that anymore so i'll just enjoy the misogyny". Number 1, in some cases it still is like that. Number 2, ask a black person to watch a movie from the early 1900s with rampant racism and see if he'll be able to enjoy it. Anyways I'm getting off track. I really loved the insight on female sexuality that was peppered throughout her film. It's rare that you watch a movie that explains to you exactly why you act in certain ways. I didn't even understand my own instincts and Breillat reveals them to me with such simplicity, passion and understanding. I wonder if men have any movies that do that for them. Anyways, getting off track again. I really want to watch more movies by directors that happen to be women. Any recommendations?

and I agree that you should check out Taymor's version of "Titus" it is amazing.

I'll see if I can come up with some titles for you later as none are coming up for me right now
