So, this morning I got a call from 8am from a number I didn't recognize. I reluctantly answered - only to be suddenly disoriented by....life.

Months ago, before my life went to crazy hell, B and I had decided to look more seriously into the kids issue.....and, with his dad's help, we found a foster facility, visited a few times, and ultimately filled out the paperwork as foster caregivers.

When we never heard back from them, we kind of assumed that they had rejected our application - they are a secular (pro-gay) organization, so they don't require couples to be married....but we are young - a year younger than their standard protocol dictates.

Well apparently we hadn't been rejected - they were calling to see if we could intervene as caregivers for 2 weeks in an emergency situation.

This is Jamal Lee. They don't tell us his last name, or his situation, but he looks healthy and happy, so I'm going to assume the best.

All hail the back of his head.

We'll have him for 2 weeks, and then we meet with their case worker for an in-home evaluation - where we all decide if we want to continue with the fostering situation from there.

Not sure what will happen. Jamal's proving to be a logistical nightmare already - who's working when - how B and I can get him from one set of arms to another. (Of course he came along while Both of B's parents are out of town....so once they're back we will have a much bigger support network.) Plus - supplies: they lent us a car-seat, and gave us some clothes, formula, and diapers....but we're currently hunting Craig's List for a crib - right now he's taking a nap on the bed, and he's not a squirmy sleeper - but by tonight we'll need a sturdier solution.

But logistics don't matter at all when you're holding this tiny, warm human in your arms. Even the way he breathes is cute - his nose catches a little bit like he's stuffed up, and the sound is so Tiny.

If we do decide to try to adopt, we'll probably wait to file the petition until I turn 25 in July....and we are talking about whether or not we'd get married - they don't require it, but I'm sure it would reassure them of our stability. Of course right now B and I's relationship is in question. Technically we're just friends, but Jamal kind of changes everything.
