After 2 years of wishing I did it, I have signed up for NaNoWriMo.
For the uninitiated, this is a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel, from start to finish, in 30 days.
For those participlating, my userID is SaylaMarz
I'm cheating a little, by returning to a project I set aside years ago and have always wanted to complete.
The NaNoWriMo site is replete with concerns about rules and don't-you-dare!s. But for me, this is the kick in the butt I need to get this written. It's for me.
I think the actual novel will be more than 50,000 words - by more than enough to make up for the old false start. I'd like to finish it in a month's timeframe, though I'm not sure if it's possible, especially given my other committments.* It's a 9-chapter idea.....and by chapter, I mean an independant ~30-page story tied to the next by the overall arc.
I'll wait until November to say more about the project. Not sure if I want to explain the idea, post excerpts (or the entire thing) on here, or just keep quiet about it.
Also not sure if anyone but me will understand it. That makes me sad. I strive toward brilliance.
*other commitments include: dance classes, violin (I'm performing in 2 weeks?! that's new!), photography, and writing a musical, on top of the complicated social life I'm suddenly balancing.
