I'm always late to the party

I am never early or on time, but at least I arrive. When I noticed this @suicidegirls homework....I had to drop everything and get my @missy and @charmaine post done!!!!!! <3

One would never know it now, but I used to hate reading!

I have this 'horrible' (I have since realized the error of my ways) memory of a childhood Christmas. My parents divorced when I was young, so holidays were always split. This holiday I was with my mother and her family.

I was the first grandchild and only 9 at the time, my very new cousin had just turned one. I remember 'us' (her parents for her) opening our gifts. I was given a plethora of books....her and awesome Radio Flyer wagon and other fun toys. I was given books. Just books. I grabbed my stack of novels and headed upstairs to hide. I just slept the rest of the afternoon away.

Now, I am saddened when my reading is limited and slowly working on my first novel in hopes it goes on to be a long series.

I began reading Sherlock Holmes books and other fun childish mystery novels. I loved figuring out the puzzle. I even decided shortly after that Christmas, I wanted to be the chief medical examiner of New York City (not to such detail at the time, but I knew I wanted to be chief medical examiner.)

When I was 15 years old I was taking biology in high school just like the rest of my peers. Except I wanted to do more. I would leave lunch or skip it all together so I could help my teacher prep for her AP Biology class. We used to pin the pigs or dissect the frogs chatting about different day to day things. Eventually she asked why I liked to skip my days social time to come assist her with things most found disgusting. I explained my career goals and my need to start early.

She, with concern in her eyes, she told me about Patricia Cornwell and her Scarpetta Series. She explained how vivid of a writer she was; and that is I was able to sit through a book, I am closer to my dream of being a Medical Examiner. I rushed to the public library immediately after school and found the series.

I read the first novel in a day.

I have since read the series multiple times over, I collect the hard backs, and I recommend them to everyone I know. I have come to know, love, despise, and fear the characters. I have cried over their struggles and deaths. I have warmed my heart with their love stories and even seen myself in their lives. In their personalities, in their flaws.

I have even lied to myself; thinking she comes out with a new book during my birthday month just for me! haha

She is my writing idol, I can't get enough of her words and imagination.

XOXO
