I'm feeling a little charred today. Physically and emotionally. Physically because I cycled to Alki Beach and back with a friend, shirtless, and spent some time baking in the sun whilst tossing a flexible plastic-rubber 'aerodisc'. Emotionally, because of my dismissal from med school. Burned and bummed.
I had a really good chat over coffee this morning with a goregous co-worker of mine who is only a few years younger than I and from Laos. She's beautiful and smart as hell, but I don't know if she's in a relationship or not, straight, bi or lesbian (I'm naive, I know) or if she'd just frankly be at all interested in me (romantically) regardless. Anyway, she had good insight on my conflict(s) with the culture and etiquette of medicine and medical school. She helped me realize some of my weaknesses and strengths and allowed me to begin having a fresh new look on the situation that I'm now in as a result of my recent dismissal-recommendation and ultimately my ensuing withdrawal. My options, possibilities, hopes and dreams.
Life is good. It gets even better. And as Andy (Tim Robbins) says (more or less) in the Shawshank Redemption, "It comes down to a basic decision. You either choose to start living, or choose to start dying."
Carpe diem! Laugh, love, live, and lift (one another)!!
I sure will.

Dude, just ask her straight up if she's involved with anyone. Judging by her response, and how it's delivered, you should be able to gauge whether or not she's interested.
