"Wise mind 'ACCEPTS'": ways to distract yourself when enduring distress -
Activities - do something good for yourself, exercise, clean, or visit a friend
Contribute - to society, to another person, to benefit another living being (human, animal, environment)
Compare - yourself to someone less fortunate, i.e. count your blessings
Emotions - read something, listen to something, or watch something that'll change your emotion like a comedy or upbeat music
Push away - the distressful situation. Leave it for a while
Thoughts - distract them with puzzles, reading, or just watching TV
Sensations - experience an equally intense feeling like holding ice, taking a hot shower, sex, loud music
The above is from my DBT skills training manual by Marsha M. Linehan
