What a day! I got up at 5:30 this morning to bike down to Tukwila to attend the first day of a 2-day CE class required for my personal care provider job. I procrastinated all year and this appears to be the last possible class I can attend this year in order to fulfill my yearly 10 hours of CE requirement.
Tukwila is 16 miles from my house and I haven't been biking that much, so I tried to leave early enough to get to the class on time. I charted my route via mapquest.com and brought a map with me. Nonetheless, I got lost and took a wrong turn that landed me on the fricken I-5! Now, you might think that it would be just easy to turn around and correct the matter. Perhaps someone smarter and less crazy than myself would have done so. But, I am what I am and in the interest of time, which was running out, I proceeded. The reason I did so was because if I would have been late to this class, I feared I would not have been allowed to take the class (in the past I've seen instructors refuse late attendees) and I would risk the possibility of loosing my job due to the missed class and whatnot. Plus, I took the day off from my higher paying job to attend this class, so I really was hellbent on getting there on time to attend the thing. So...I proceeded to ride my bicycle onto the friggin' freeway until I reached the next exit. It was downhill, rush hour, freaky as shit. I felt like the HUGEST dumbass as well. But, I did it and didn't get caught. The ticket would have really sucked ass.
So, I get off the freeway and made a wrong turn. I ran into some construction workers and a sheriff on the side of the road and they redirected me. Then I ended up on the wrong side of a river within sight of the hotel where the class was being held and I had 7 minutes to go. I was incredibly frustrated. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Ugh!!
I back tracked a little and corrected another error and actually made it on time. I was beat.
I sat through the 4 1/2 hours of the first half of this class and biked home a different and much saner and safer way. The way I'm going to take to return to the hotel tomorrow.
Now I'm just having a late lunch and nursing a sore knee. I dunno what the deal is, but the ligaments in my left knee get really sore after long and/or strenuous bike rides.
C'est la vie.
peace
