Now Reading: Survivor Song by Paul Tremblay

And so it begins! Survivor Song by Paul Tremblay is hereby my first read of 2025! I am setting my reading goal to 30 books this year as well over at The StoryGraph; that's much less than one book a week, which will not only give me some space to do my usual stuff, like activities on TikTok and Discord, attend various social events and so on, but also to focus more on my own writing. At the end of 2024, I revived an old idea, and I'm looking forward to working more on it throughout this year.

As for this novel, I can almost guarantee I love it, based on the fact alone that it's written by Tremblay. I have read several of his stories by now, and in addition to a genuine love the stories in and of themselves, Tremblay has become one of my influences in terms of how beautifully and vividly he describes things along the way.

This time we are dealing with a rabies-like virus that throws the world into a post-apocalyptic scenario. Based on the blurb, I am getting the feeling of a hybrid between real life chaos like the COVID pandemic, and stories such as the movie 28 Days Later. Fun, dystopian times, in other words!

I’ve used audiobooks to get through physical reads I was struggling with and it makes washing dishes/laundry/commute so much nicer. I’d set a goal of 40 last year and only managed 33 so I’m determined to do better, even if it’s just for my mental health. I kept with 40 this year as well since I fell short last time and had a huge gap over the spring/summer. So far, I’ve finished 10 this month but I’m not holding on to that being a norm. lol.

@niffler 10 in a month is pretty damn impressive! I agree that audiobooks are great company while doing other stuff, so I need to get back into doing that more myself. I can relate to those gaps. Happened a few times last year, even though I did reach my goal.
