Weekend Kickoff! (10.04.2024)

How has everybody been doing lately?

I haven't done a Weekend Kickoff blog post in a while, because I've been both a little busy, and a little six. But I want to get back into it soon, just to give some regular updates.

When I say I've been sick, fortunately it has only been a light case of the flu, not Covid or anything like that. But damn, I was pretty feverish at one point last week. I feel like the symptoms peaked last Wednesday, and I ended up sleeping for over 13 hours that evening. But from that Thursday on and until now, I have increasingly felt better at least. Just a bit sniffly still, and coughing a bit.

As I announced in a post of its own a few days ago, I hit another milestone with my writing, having written 30,000 words in September - basically 1K words every day. I am hoping to keep that up, so that by the end of October, I will have written another 31K.

Speaking of October's 31 days, I am also returning to something that has sort of been a tradition for me (and many others, I'm sure), watching 31 horror movies in 31 days. I didn't fully do that last year, so it's fun to return to it again this year. So far I have watched:

Apartment 7A (2024)
A prequel to the 1968 classic Rosemary's Baby. It was interesting, and they definitely tried to keep up the same creepy vibes as the original one, but it was overall much lighter in tone.

Sting (2024)
This one was kind of a surprise. I was expecting something similar to the 1990 classic Arachnophobia - the "Jaws" of spider movies, basically - but it had a much different premise. And even though it had sort of a B-horror indie feel, it actually had some character development.

'Salem's Lot (2024)
I've read the original Stephen King book, and I have seen the first adaptation from the late 1970s, as well as the sequel, and then the 2004 remake of the original adaptation. So this is yet another remake, but compared to the previous one, this is a much shorter, compact version, and thus it almost feels a bit more rushed. It was more mellow on the horror vibes too, and had more of an action feel, but it was nice for what it was.

Not sure what I will watch tonight yet. I have this "spin-the-wheel" thing which chooses for me, based on a list I have provided, just to make it a little more fun.

So, that's a little update about me. Please tell me some updates about yourself, who ever reads this! And while you type, let's enjoy this brand-new song by Spiritbox!
