Yesterday I spent the day walking around to all the different shopping centres.
Most of the day was occupied at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, which is a massive open market.
A unique experience was truly had, the air was filled with the aroma of various eateries. The smell carried through the market and made you feel the streets of Bangkok. The market is divided into columns and rows but you simply feel that you are walking through a Labyrinth. Much of the map I had I did not use as I just walked for hours through the maze of the market. Bargaining is an art form that should be used here as Thais are accustomed to it. Admittedly I was not very successful in this but that did not stop me from buying various items as they were cheap as is. I would not be able to find those prices back home so I paid a cheap price anyway.
Some sights of the market may be difficult for some viewers, a guy with one leg crawling through the market with a donation bucket, young children with barely any clothes sitting waiting for donations. I used to read that the animal section of the market was cruel but this was not true. They are kept in open cages with fans to keep them cool.
Coming back from the market I stopped once again at MBK, which is a massive indoor shopping mall. I walked around for a few hours, had some dinner and proceeded to go back to my hotel. The bangkok night is humid and still. The streets are filled with vendors selling their wares.
I made it back to the hotel, got changed and went to the bar at the lobby. Had a few drinks whilst a band played their set. Just when I thought I could escape all the top40 hits from the radio they decided to play most of them. Not a bad gig though.
I decided to finish my drinks and go to check my email for a bit and started to sit at the internet kiosk in the hotel. A man who I had previously saw at the bar also used the internet and sat next to me. He started to chat and we talked about australian, europe and the US and about travelling through those countries. He seemed like a nice guy. And then he asked me if I wanted to go up to his room for a nightcap. It was 2 in the morning and I just said that I'm gonna go to bed because I have things on for tomorrow. Making me sound like a liar he says that I don't and that I could come up and rape his mini-bar. At this point I got up and made a move for the elevator where he followed. We stepped in together and as we are reaching for his floor, he asks me again if I wanted to come for a nightcap whilst rubbing my shoulder. OK so the guy tried to pick up, that's ok people are on holidays in the hotel. But I just felt creeped out by his manerism. If I say no politely DON'T START TOUCHING ME. That was the end of the evening. I hope I don't run into him for the rest of the day. I have a feeling he will be on my flight though because he flies to london as well.
