The archetypal forces that lead to shamans in the past, now lead to artists. Theres the theme of suffering until with the shamans, and sometimes the theme of suffering throughout with the artists.

How did he become a shaman? Sickness seized him when he was twenty three years old and he became a shaman at the age of thirty. That was how he became a shaman, after the sickness, after the torture. He had been ill for seven years. While he was suffering, he had dreams He who is seized by the shaman sickenss and does not begin to exercise shamanism, must suffer badly. He might lose his mind, he may even have to give up his life. Therefore he is advised, You must take up shamanism so as not to suffer. Some even say, I became a shaman only to escape illness.
- Holger Kalweits book

So the Twins were half xibalbon and half divine. They were a combination of the forces of life and death, integrated in a way that produced a fuller, more intense level of being. The Twins were that part of every soul that having learned the lessons of suffering and cruelty and internalized the necessity of both, could rise in empowered fulfillment of its divinedemonic potential. Together, these two visions of the triumphant soul portray the ancient Maya ideal of human being in its fullness, a fullness that embodies all of who we are, and in such a way that we become creaters of life The Maya believed that beyond the torture houses every one of us must enter in life, the culminating moment of truth waits for us in the underworld of our darkest imagining. What we do at this inner place of fright, when the time comes depends on the qualities of soul we bring to it.
- Douglas Gillette

What Rimbaud's imitators, as well as his detractors, fail to see is that he was advocating the practice of a new way of life. He was not trying to set off a new school of art, in order to divert the enfeebled spinners of words. He was pointing out the union between art and life, bridging the schism, healing the mortal wound.
- Henry Miller

Frida kahols paintings are filled with images of a wound that never closesafter one of her thirty-two operations to arrest the decline of her skeletal system, Kahlo created the broken column showing the artist encased in a brace which holds together the split halves of her body. In the red gash between the halves, a cracked column extends from her pelvic area to her neck. Copious tears run down her face, nails have been driven into her body, and the rents in the earth behind her emphasize her anguish."
- Mark Levy

The point where spritual traditions overlap is fascinating. Most of the stuff about shamans doesnt seem real and shamans cant survive in todays world anyway, and so henry miller and those like him use the word artist to describe their ideal, which is some kind of misunderstood healer. But people dont need to be healed by some do-good healer. And they dont need a hero. They need a salve that only divine luck or human touch can provide.

Peace in isolation is potentially hell. Theres an event horizon, like in the movies, the crew splits up, everyone is seperated, forgets to nurture the real, opens their minds too far, and the horrors of one become the horrors of all. Its the difference between isolation and solace. If one goes too deep within the blackness of the galaxy within, one finds a singularity, aptly named. One finds what it must have been like for the universe when it was first formed, when it developed consciousness, that first moment, the first time, all alone, its initial terror is hard to describe. But luckily, somehow, it figured out a way to endure. If one could be born, then two, and if two then three, a kind of trinity, and the miracle of the relationships between them was enough to bring them peace. Truth is an energy source, not a destination. The purpose of truth is life and relationships.
