I watched some of the state of the union speech. Gagged. Turned off the volume. Watched it in silence for a couple minutes, then turned it off. .
Why do the senators clap? I have to suppose that they clap because they were asked to do it, just like the members of the british parliament were asked to give a standing ovation to Bush. If hes willing to request that foreign government officials salute him, hes obviously willing to ask it of his own republican senators. Maybe they just love him to bits though. Maybe hes heroic and saving them from evil and spreading christian values throughout the world. Maybe, the senate is not performing its function as a check on the presidents power, if its cheering his every word. Checks and balances. I remember reading once that checks and balance had something to do with America. Not sure what right at the moment. Cant seem to recall. Well
The state of the union speech reminded me of those videos of WWII, with the happy yet serious leader nodding his approval towards an adoring and perfectly synchronized audience. Hitler was bad. I think demonifying Hitler is a very good thing. However. People tend to forget that he was in fact a human being first, and a monster second. He was not an alien/human hybrid, and thus we owe it to the people that he killed to remember the risk of falling victim to a leaders rhetorical delivery. Basically, he used his normal human knowledge of how to persuade large mass of people to support a particular course of action. What folks might choose to remember is that such things are not only possible. That they are in fact quite easy. When governments lie without even batting an eye, for some ungodly reason, the majority of people feel compelled to nod there heads. Why do they do that. Well, I dont know. Why is an interesting question. But its not useful. How do we stop people from nodding there heads though? When we perceive that others are not only nodding, but clapping, not only clapping but cheering, how do we disconnect ourselves from the stream of love for good and perfect leader. I think the more compelling question than why does this happen? would be Can this flaw be overcome?. We already know, thanks to WWII, that people believe in what theyre told if there is a high level of lies, pride, and fear within their skulls. Can such leaders be stopped at all, or do we have to let the pathological leader run his course. Is it possible to vote him out of office? I have to hope that such a thing is possible. George Bush lacks evil, clearly he is not the same as Hitler. But he is equal to Hitler in persuasive ability, at least to a certain demographic. He is Adolfs equal in rhetorical delivery. The use of the word homeland is not a coincidence. The use of a tragedy to support a pre-planned war is not a poem. Hes like Hitler light though. Much less sadism than the fly on the ass of humanity called Hitler. Bush is Hitler without the evil, without the hatred, because he honestly doesnt feel responsible for anyone that dies. Hitler redux. Without his own ideas. Just a puppet, playing his part. Youre not supposed to say that anyone is similar to Hitler unless they murder millions of people. Yes, that was bad enough, but we already know that killing millions is bad, we learned that in the womb for gods sake, the lesson we should have learned from WWII is the danger of charisma. Bush really is Hitlers equal in terms of his charisma, that and his ability to enduce popular support for large greenish crocks of shite. A charismatic perveyor of fear and pride is all that Hitler was. Well, also he was the most evil man that ever lived. But maybe not the most, theres probably tons of folks who are quite evil, but that just fall flat on their butt at an early age, and end up in prison because theyre emotionally retarded. Hitler was just the most evil person that was able to persuade a nation of europeans that he was defending them from evil and spreading christian values throughout europe. He was charasmatic first and was evil also. Bush is just charismatic. There are similarities. There I said it. Maybe I should clarify just for the hell of it. There are abilities (not necessarily character traits) that Hitler and Bush share. Yes. And that is why Im scared. Luckily, the top three democratic candidates for president all seem fairly humane.
