Solaris.
Do large objects in space have minds, due to the sheer size and complexity of their make-up? In the book Solaris, the ocean creates life, it just keeps creating life, and also objects. It doesnt explain itself to anyone. Everything it creates eventually dissolves back into the ocean after a time, there is only ever a certain amount of time. Sometimes the created objects create life themselves and objects too, and sounds, and by this means they communicate and create a sense of understanding. Sometimes they fight to stay separate from the ocean they come from, to not be dissolved and torn apart and broken, to dream and explore and perceive and experience the range of sensations they instinctively prefer. They want to continue to exist in their present environment which is to them a dreamworld they create by a combination of imagining and perceiving, and they fight to live and know themselves as separate and they always succeed, until they fail. They may become a society, and the society itself becomes the second ocean, and uses the langauge of dialectic to help ensure that people dont dissolve into each other, unless they want to, like during sex. But even then its necessary to keep a few barriers up, so as not lose ones soul.
