Why do people seek love? I asked the sphinx
And the sphinx answered, People who seek love are more likely to have sex.
That's wrong. I said. People who want sex are more likely to have sex. Sex isn't love. I told the sphinx who seemed to contemplate this wisdom.
After a pause, the sphinx continued, If two people both seeking love stay together because of love, they will be able to perform different tasks, one could hunt for meat, and the other could dig for things like potatoes, and thus they have more balanced meals and one can take care of their child and protect it from tigers while the other is away doing the hunting or the digging, and so they're more likely to provide the physical nourishment and also the safe environment that will help them raise a child successfully. Because they work together as a team, you see they're more likely to successfully raise the child, than a person who said to hell with love and tried to go it alone. Thus their genetic material would stand a better...
I had to interupt the Sphinx, It seems like you're talking about cavemen or something. Nobody hunts for meat anymore, they go to the store. And there are no tigers to eat up the children in these parts. So really what about the world right now, sphinx? Come along, why do people seek out love today? I asked the sphinx these questions.
Because they do, said the sphinx.
And i was enlightened. I may have failed to mention it was a zen-master sphinx. However, even though i was fully enlightened by his words, i had a few more questions for the sphinx. What about people who seek love of a short term nature, like for 1 day to 4 years. And then having loved well, they want to move on. They don't want something incredibly platonic. They want something new and novel and vibrant and alive. Why do they seek something like that, according to your model?
