Oh, and the appraisal is a monster. Some 240 items to catalog and price. I've spent over 200 hours working on it; typing, researching, grading, crunching numbers and trying to assess the appropriate price for items that are really invaluable. One of a kind pieces, Tiffany's pieces a hundred years old, wristwatches worth as much as a new Audi A4 and diamonds that could buy you an Aston Martin or a small Peruvian boy. Insanity I say.

Might be boring, but a calculation of expense/profit would most likely do it. What will be your profit (not necessarily money) from getting the turntable and will that offset the $1200 (either sooner or later).

For example, last year I upgraded my camera. Body, lenses, other assorted equipment ran me about $2000. I'm not a pro. I don't make money from my photography. It's just a hobby. Is the enjoyment from the hobby (profit) greater than the expense? For me, yes.

Will you get ~$1200 worth of value out of the turntable? If so, buy it and enjoy. If not, don't.
