If ice cream was a planet, part 2/topless produce enjoyment:
for Corinthia

Avocados are yummy. They are creamy, almost gelato-like. I wish I had some to experiment on right now, to see if I could make an ice cream from them.

My suggestion:
(serves one)
Planet Ice Cream

gently mash one avocado
add one pinch of salt
sugar to taste
mix gently
Do not freeze or chill unless you like gross brown avocado.

This might be good with stuff in it--fruit bits, chocolate shavings, praline crumbles, crushed nuts. I really have no clue. I haven't tried it at all. I'm just mentally playing with this right now. So if anybody does try it, let me know.

Or you could just go with my old standby of sliced avocado, sliced tomatoes, basil leaves, halved pimientos, tossed with olive oil, coarse salt, and fresh ground black pepper. Serve on good bread of your choice, or on salad greens. Also goes well with fresh mozzarella. This is great in September when you can get all this stuff fresh and roast your own pimientos, but not so hot at late harvest. Getting really great tomatoes now is unlikely. This dish really plays up the integrity of your ingredients, so it's worth waiting for.

The piece of produce I'm most excited for right now is pomegranates. Yum. However, no one has taught me how to eat one without seeds flying everywhere. So my advice is to take your shirt off, chop the darling in half, and go to bonobo-style with your fingers. If anyone has another method (less messy or more visually appealing) let me know.

For the record, I'm not giving out raisins for Halloween. Although it might be fun to do kumquats sometime.
