I need to cook more. Omelet party? But make me wear shoes.

My back has been bugging me recently. I was walking around Smithsonians with my guy today and my back just could not take any more. I need to let this heal completely. No lifting heavy objects, no cute shoes, no carrying around extra crap. Anyone want to buy me a new bed?

So yeah, my guy was in town this weekend. It was fun. We saw a play and tried to see museums and ate a lot of food. Busboys and Poets: consistently above average. We danced cheek to cheek. We talked face to face. I miss that when I don't get to see him. But I put him on the train and he's gone again and I'm not sure when I'll see him.

I need to move to New York. I need to find a job in New York so I can move there. I need to find a job beginning September, anyway. I miss him but I won't be happy with him unless I'm doing good work. I know this. I need both for my heart to win. I can't just follow him around the planet as I've done before. But what if I have neither? The last time that happened I at least had my family and a dog nearby. All I have here is a job that will end soon and a handful of friends I'm too busy to see.

So for now I venerate the objects he accidentally left behind and feel like my bedroom is suddenly too big without him in it.

Hmm, following someone is always even more tricky than it seems it'll be. I think you're onto something about having to both love your work and love the other person--if it's just the latter, then that's putting too much pressure on something that doesn't deserve it.

I agree about Busboys and Poets--it's my neighborhood diner, and I'm afraid I end up there a little too often. But really, I can't be expected to make a peanut butter sandwich at home when there's a much tastier one just down the street, can I?

frown Missing someone sucks, but it can make the reunions so much more special.

It was awesome running into you yesterday afternoon. I understand you're busy, but if you're ever bored, we should hang out! smile
