So, the Hindu-Jewish wedding weekend. With extra nonsense for my most loyal fans.

I'm just now getting around to telling you about it.

It was good.

It was nice to get out of the city. Everything was so green. There was lots of grass. Think about it. In the midwest, there's all this grass, not being used for anything. Just kind of like wallpaper. And I kept thinking, Where are all the sheep? There were no sheep. It was the suburbs. But there's all this grass, just surrounding office parks and places where no one but the Chemlawn guy ever touches it.

And everything is all spread out for no good reason.

I got to see my cousin (who is pregnant! WOW!) and her puppy. And she gave me a bunch of Aveda hair products that I'm guessing would cost about $200. She was in the Aveda academy but basically got forced out since she's pregnant. And my aunt just emailed me ultrasound photos yesterday. The baby looks like an alien.

And I got to hang out with some of my boyfriend's law school friends. Now I can call them lawyer friends, I guess, but he knew them when they were 1Ls puking before their exams.

And I got to eat in chain restaurants. That's not so exciting. But I'm a sucker for Max & Erma's chocolate chip cookies (though their coffee sucks) and Chili's Top Shelf margarita. I feel so dirty admitting that to you all. But it was a vacation -- I'm allowed to be tasteless, right?

But the wedding was amazing. It was in a restored train station with a cathedral ceiling and opposing rose windows. The Hindu ceremony was first. There were blessings with fire, rejoicing with ululations and conch shells, and a priest with a legal pad. The bride was carried in on a litter by the four groomsmen. She was resplendent behind the leaf she held in front of her face. The bride and groom were tied together. Everything was gorgeously symbolic.

Set change: Colorfully-garlanded canopy becomes white chuppah.

Costume change: Red sari to white spaghetti-strap ballgown, salwaar kameez to tuxedo.

Jewish ceremony: more familiar, even though I'd never been to a Jewish wedding. Catholicism had to start somewhere, right? Short.

I must say that the bride's Hebrew was much better than the groom's Sanskrit. (She's the Hindu; he's the Jew.)

And they had at least 3 photographers/videographers. And the booze was high quality. And it's not every weekend you get to dance with someone's Bengali relations.

But I caught the bouquet. Well, I didn't really catch it. I didn't put my arms up or anything. But it struck me and fell to the floor right in front of me, so I thought I should pick it up. And then the photographers surrounded me. It was a little creepy. And the boyfriend would not talk to me for a good 5 minutes. He still refuses to say I caught the bouquet. He says I "ate the buffet." Then he started saying I ate the bride's buffet, which sounds raunchy.

So I have this bunch of roses in a mason jar in my room now. And they're pretty. Superstition and concern for cancer-eaten Venezuelan women aside, I love getting roses. (BUY ORGANIC!)
