Alternative Mommy

Just recently I was contacted by a very popular mommy page via Instagram. An editor had sent me a DM saying she was doing an article that focuses on the diversity of motherhood such as tattoos, piercings, colored hair etc and asked if she could use a photo of mine (which I will share below, along with a photo of me with my other child.) and asked me why being a mother hasn't changed my style or who I am so I thought this subject would be perfect for my first blog!!

Growing up I always knew I was different than others. I was labeled the oddball or the weird girl and was made of for it. I was the first one in my school to start doing crazy things to my hair, first one to get her nose pierced, belly button and so on. Then, once I was of age I started getting tattoos. The more I got the more I fell in love. For the first time I felt like I knew who I was and I wasnt going to let anyone make fun of me or get to me just because I looked different or liked the "weird stuff". Once I became a mom that wasn't any different. I know girls who once they became a parent they thought it meant dying their hair, getting piercings or even something as simple as the way they dressed wasn't okay. As if being a mother or even a father meant you had to look a certain way.

I cant, and wont do that to my kids. I want them to know that no matter what you look like or what you choose to like is okay because more than anything I want them to be comfortable with who they are. No matter what, motherhood hasn't and wont change my style because this is who I am as a person. My look, colored hair, piercings, tattoos, everything. It represents who I am and as my kids get older I want them to know its okay to be who they are. Whether they choose to have colored hair and piercings or they like something that other people may find "weird". I want them to "embrace the weird" because its what makes them or anyone stand out. Normal is boring!

As long as they know that, nothing else matters. Not only do I embrace being an "alternative mommy", I love it!! @rambo @missy
