So, I think the biggest problem I have when trying to think about mythology is that I conceptualize the mythological figures as people who have a consciousness that works similar to mine. This cannot be true, however, because by thier nature they are symbolic representations of basic human drives. They are not people, even the ones that are presented as people are representaions of people that are conveying some form of deeper truth than our self-obsessed minds can fully conceptualize. I wonder if these figures, though do have somesort of self-awareness in one form or another. What would it be like to have your identity rests inside the collective unconscious?

I'm kind of sad I won't be taking Marko's dreams class anymore. I was getting frustrated with it a week or two ago because I felt like I wasn't really learning anything, but while writing my final last night I created a whole new categorization to place mythological figures in. It was so nice and slightly self-indulgent to talk about absract theories of consciousness and mythology and religion and philosophy and try to find connections. The really tricky part was explaining the connection, but since so much of what we were saying could not really be refuted, it was the perfect time to talk about fun theories that can in no way be proven. I suppose i do need to come back down to earth though, and learn some arguing skills against people who can prove me wrong.

I however, haven't slept in 60 hours or so, so I should probably go do that.

Thanks for what you said in the Christianity Crappy? thread. I especially related to the "where is the female" aspect. That's what drew me to Paganism and Wicca. There is a neat Pagan Peeps group that you might want to check out.

We are always creating our own mythologies... Blessed be! smile
