Crap.I thought this was the last book in the series. There is another. I am fine with that, I don't want Nausicaa to end, but I got them at the library and the last one is still being borrowed by someone else....

Miyazaki is probably one of the most brilliant storytellers of our time.
I mean that.
One of the things I love most about his work is the way he can introduce something that seems scary, disturbing, dangerous and then make you want to hang out with it, protect it, learn from it.
The examples that spring to mind.
-----Ohmu. I am not a fan of many legged insects. But I wanted to defend them.
-----Totoro, scared me at first, had such an ominous feeling...and it is the most beloved character for me ever in any film. And I saw it 2 years ago! Not like I am a child.
----The Forest God. Spooky, disturbing, profoundly archtypal.
He also doesn't choose sides in his work, there is no simple "good vs evil"story which is a such an arbitrary but popular dichotomy that I think it has really skewed the perception of reality for many people.
And in practically every film, there is a line similar to "what a beautiful tree"... I *heart* tree worship.

i am such a huge fan of master miyazaki... i mean the dude just rules! if i could ever find an artist that could actually do it justice i would totally get his forest backgrounds tattoo'd over all my skin... ok so there would be lotsa kodama as well, cause they just rule
