So I awoke today to sun through my window, and my housemate Jeannine urging me to pull some clothes on and head to Java planet for some iced coffee. Having obtained some caffeine, we sat on the sun-dappled sidewalk, chatted with the alterna-musician barrista girl and sipped coffee. Some guy was playing acoustic guitar at next to us, and the trees rustled lightly in the breeze. It was a lovely little Portland scene--the exact kind of thing that draws me here in the summer. Sure, I could get coffee in Chicago, but it wouldn't be the same.

The last three weeks have flown by here. I've been working a fair amount--trying to make my telecommuting thing work. And there's been a lot of hanging out at parties and bars. I have to admit I'm falling in love with Portland agian. My trip is half-over and I don't know if I'll want to leave at the end of it. If I can find some way to move here and still feel like my life and career is moving forward, I'll do it in a heartbeat.

Coming soon: A rundown of Portland bars and clubs including: Dots, Dante's, The Devil's Point, Magic Gardens, Mary's Club, The Pirate's Cove, The Space Room, Shanghai Tunnel and (see the photo) the Sandy Hut.

Currently Listening to: Eno's "Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy. "
Currently Reading: Barb Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror"

I was going to comment about the whole coffee / chicago / portland angle you've got going there, but I got distracted by the end of your post.

God damn. "Taking Tiger Mountain" is such a fantastic fucking album.

I've been trying to move to portland for a few months, and seems like the universe doesn't want me to.
