Yesterday was awesome. I had breakfast with some friends, then went down to the public pool and sat in the sun for a couple hours. After that, off to a friend's birthday party at a beer garden here in the 'hood. Several hours, beers, and sausages later, we wandered over to Hollywood, to hang out at The Foundry, a new restaurant a guy I...

5 days off in a row. Don't know what to do with that much time off.

Good.

So a buddy of mine just got back from Spain, he was down in the same region I visited when I was there.

You may remember my ranting about the hams there... Well, Miguel was born in Granada and a lot of his family still lives there, and he used to be a chef, so he understands and shares the same passion for pig. He...

I got invited to a chef party this coming weekend, thrown by chefs, for chefs.

If you imagine that a party like that would consist of things like the outdoor roasting of a whole pig, whole roasted goat, fire tricks, loads of booze, and a bunch of musicians hanging around playing for their supper, you'd be just about right.

Sounds pretty medieval, doesn't it? I...

but your comment was spot on in that context anyway....

So this morning I had to get up at 6am, which is contrary to my general preference and lifestyle, and spend the bulk of the day at a management training class put on by the company that owns the hotel I work in. My ex-girlfriend was in the same class. We actually had a fantastic time sitting in the back of the room making fun...

If you can't say something nice....

Well, whatever. I got a couple elk shoulders and a boat load of chicken legs to do some barbecuin' with this weekend.

That'll do for now.
lizzi:
Elk? Crazy! Sorry I missed it, but I had a blast in your namesake town! kiss

Finally...

Finally, we filled the last spot for employees in the kitchen. We officially offered a job yesterday to someone to fill the last of 4 holes we had. To put that into perspective, there were 5 of us working and we were 4 people short. Ouch. We've slowly filled those holes, and now, assuming this guy can pass a drug test, we are fully...

That's good then. Kitchens are mad enough when they're fully staffed.
Thanks for your concern mate. I haven't had anything since then & as all the major tests were done there (I hope - cos I felt like a pincushion) I'll just wait for the follow up & hope it it doesn't happen again. There isn't a history of heart trouble in my family which is a definite 'plus'.
Spain sounds good.

So, I'm all moved ... still have everything to unpack, though.

My life should start moving at a normal speed very soon, which is nice. My moving is over, my Chicago friends have come and gone, my vacationing cook is back, and a new cook starts in about a week, as well. All that's left is my stepfather comes in town Monday, and I need...
