Right, so, travelog...
I arrived in London Sunday afternoon, meandered around to Cakemix's place (who was so very kind as to put me up for the nights I was in town), and after dropping my bags, we walked down to the Lowlander for beers and food, then wandered about the West End, eventually settling at the Crobar for a few more drinks. Despite being at the Crobar, it didn't turn into a slobbering drunken night of craziness .... they were closing at 10.30 that night, so we went by Garlic & Shots, where we ended up in the back room of the basement bar drinking with some other people from Los Angeles who we just happened to meet in there. Go figure.
Monday, it was lunch at St John for me, and the food was ace, as always. There's something magical about that place -- not just the food, but the atmosphere and everything. It's one of the most relaxing places I've ever stepped into, plus they always feed me so well. I still love it there, as much as ever. One of the barmen is supposed to be out here in LA in a few weeks with his band, and took my number and email adress to get in touch while he's here. Oh, and I had the "brown shrimp and white cabbage," and the "pressed pork and gizzards." I actually wish I'd had someone along with me so we could have ordered a couple more things to split, as there were some other things on the menu I'd never had there that sounded really nice.
Spent some time in the Ship that day as well, catching up with the old gang there, which was nice, as there were a couple I didn't see when I was out there last year.
That night, I went to dinner with a good friend from culinary school, had some fantastic Lebanese food at a little place near his house. We sat for a couple hours catching up and trading kitchen stories of the past couple years, as well as love and heartbreak stories of the past couple years, and it was nice.
My flight to Spain was at 6am, so I opted not to try to go to bed beforehand, and ended up hanging out with CrackHeidi at the Crobar until about 1.30 or so, then went to Cake's and grabbed my bags, caught the bus to Victoria, and hopped the 3.30am train out to Gatwick for the flight.
I slept maybe an hour or so on the flight, and touched down in Granada around 10am. Grabbed some Euros from the ATM, then caught a bus into town, whereupon my arrival it immediately started pissing rain, so I took shelter in a cafe near the University and waited for my friend who I was staying with to finish work. He found me sitting at the bar drinking coffee after coffee and staying just awake enough to read while waiting.
Alright .... I'll pick up from that point tomorrow.
