when i hear the song, i can close my eyes, and it all comes back to me. i can feel the wind on my face. smell the salt water.feel as content as i can be. i can imagine resting my head down on the shoulder of my sometime outcast companion. standing there on the rooftop of the bar out on the dock. with a girl i had known for one week out of the year, for several years running. two lost souls that bumped into each other by chance at the same place and time every year. she was almost the type of person i sometime wished i was and could be when i was with her.
i remember those times whenever i hear that song. and i also wonder what had happened to her. its been almost 3 years or more since ive last seen her. i wonder how she made out. if she ever found what she was looking for. if shes happy. i may never know. or i may by chance run into her at our rendezvous when i least expect it. and that will be a long time from now. i wish you well, familar stranger.
