I love huge revelations. They make me so happy.
So here's the deal. I watched Supersize Me last night at work and it was amazing. Especially for me, someone who has horrendous eating habits. Watching this movie turned on lights in my head that had been burnt out for many years. Sure, my eating habits are not as extreme as Morgan's were (for those of you that haven't heard about it, he goes on a month-long McDonald's splurge: three meals a day, all from McDonalds) but they're pretty darn bad.
Not only that, but two of my biggest health issues are the first and second cause of preventable death in the United States: smoking and weight. So, beginning tomorrow, I am going on a cleansing spree. No more smoking. No more drinking. No more meat or processed foods. I'm cutting back on the fatty foods, cutting out the soda and sugar, and going completely vegan. I've been doing the vegan thing for about three days and it's going well so far. I'm in love with vanilla soy milk. I do need to branch out a little, however, so I'm attempting to find new things to eat. I've been getting a lot of carbs, which is the easiest thing to eat when you're starting off on the vegan path, but the types of carbs I've been getting are mostly empty. And I feel drained, mostly because of the lack of protein. I'm going to have to suck it up and eat some lentils.
I've also been fasting quite a bit, eating only a very minimal amount of food per day. I know this isn't really recommended, but it truly makes me appreciate the foods I'm not used to eating when I actually get food. I'm not planning to do this for a particularly long time. I just want to feel better. I don't want to have this pressure in my chest from smoking and from being unhealthy. I'm ready to stick with this because no one thinks I can. I want to prove them wrong for a change...
