Cool, I wanted to write something about Dream Theater and other bands like that. Mainly the new breed of prog rockers...I used to love them but then I thought they sounded too much like berklee musicians which is what they did. They are technically perfect and unless you practice 37 hours a day, you will never be as good as them but is that what you want? Not me. I don't care if I'm the worst technical player as long as I have the feel, the soul, and the style. I'm really into funk and jazz. I don't like shredders. Sometimes I love Dream Theater but not when it becomes a shred/noodle/show off session. Prog rock needs soul and individuality...It's cool that you do songs in weird time signatures that you need math to understand them but that's not really my big thing. I've basically done with most math and science. (I seriously read an interview with Mike Portnoy and he said they use a chalk board to figure out their songs and how the time signatures fit). I need the SOUL...What do you think?
