Ken Wilson’s voice is still ingrained in my childhood brain. Now, hearing Sam Rosen’s voice (and oddly enough I’ve come full circle with Joe Micheletti) sounds like angels singing. Hockey has been in my life my whole life. I remember watching St. Louis Blues games with my family every night. My birthday present one year was getting to see Paul Kariya and the Ducks play in St. Louis. I lived for the Red Wings/Avalanche rivalry in the 90’s. I joke that I’m not truly drunk if I can still name the Red Wings Russian Five.
I dated a guy whose family was from New York for about 10 years and adopted the Rangers. I would joke: “I broke up with the man—not the team!” Getting to visit Madison Square Garden to see the Rangers were amazing experiences. I also fell in love with a city I never thought I’d get to see. Getting to hear the goal song in person gave me chills. Too bad they never, ever win when I go. That’s why I can’t watch playoff games now. Every time I try to watch they lose. As my dad is fond of pointing out: The Rangers haven’t won a Stanley Cup since you started paying attention in 95. That’s the ultimate jinx.” I don’t care what anyone says about superstitions not being real. I know the hockey gods are real…GO RANGERS😋
