Readers,
So I'm back in Uniform tomorrow, marking (counting the weekend) about five days break from it. I should note that I'm in the Army Reserves and my only real obligation right now is one-weekend a month. I've been back from my third tour overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for just about 100 days now.
I tried doing the 'normal' civilian type job when I got back but I just didn't dig it, so I'm back in uniform Monday through Friday for the foreseeable future. Basically my unit is cutting orders for me to work 8-5 through the week, with my education and experience I could be making a lot more money, but there is something to be said about doing something your passionate about.
With that said, I should clarify what I mean by 'passionate'. I love working with fellow service members, I like a defined rank structure (that in my experience is respected more than the civilian positions I've had), and I love teaching and taking care those Soldiers underneath me. I also really dig my career field. I'm a photojournalist and a broadcast journalist for the Army, so I get to be a little creative in an otherwise dry work environment.
Anyways, this brief time away from the uniform as allowed me to grow out my facial hair a little and thought I'd post a few pictures of it before I shave it tomorrow morning. If anything, the time I've spent overseas has taught me to truly appreciate the little freedoms that I took advantage of without thinking prior to joining the military. Facial hair is one of those freedoms. It probably sounds really silly, especially with just the short stubble you'll see the pictures below, but once I've retired, one of the first things on my list will be to grow it out as long as I can take it
Or rather, as long as the woman I'm with can stand lol.
Hope everyone had a fantastic Tuesday. The sounds of rain, thunder and tornado sirens are filling the air from my open window and I can just almost smell that dusty scent of a summer storm. I've lived in the desert overseas more than I have in the states over the last few years, and I am so looking forward to green and thunder storms.

Thanks Sky, I look at them now and see real fatigue in my eyes. March was a busy month!
