I saw Minority Report 2...I mean Paycheck today. It was another in a long line of barely serviceable sci-fi type movies. It's hard for me to imagine that this John Woo is the same guy that gave us The Killer, Hard-Boiled, and A Better Tomorrow. It's also hard for me to imagine this is the best Hollywood can do with someone of Dick's skill. Then again, I've also seen what they do to William Gibson books.

I also can scarcely credit that there are people in this world who are so brain-dead that they couldn't follow the by-the-number plot. However, I somehow managed to be sandwiched between four of them. Honest to God, how hard is it to remember that the place the main character repeatedly picks up his mail at the front door is his apartment? How hard is it when the director has just handed you the McGuffin on a silver platter to actually understand what the McGuffin does? Honestly?

I propose that there be an attention/intelligence screening before entering a theater that's filled to over half capacity. If you fail the screening, you can still see the movie, but if you start talking, you will instantly recieve a shock--like how they tried to stop the guy smoking in Cat's Eye. I see that as a win for everyone...except the people too painfully stupid to feel bad about inflicting themselves on other moviegoers that can actually follow the plot.
